The real name of our community is We'ko'kmaq. It was changed when it was mispelled in one of the earlier Winter Carnivals. And from then on our community has been known has Waycobah. So many people still call our community We'ko'kmaq.
The Mi'kmaq have inhabited this region for over 10000 years. Prior to Centralization, We'ko'kmaq was much larger it included what is currently known as the village of Whycocomagh. Check out the links below to learn more about the history of Waycobah.
