The annual hockey tournament that takes place in Waycobah every year is the Earl David Googoo Memorial Hockey tournament. It has been held every year since 1990. It takes place at the Whycocomagh and area arena. It was held there every year except for once. In 1997 it was held at the Port Hawksbury arena. The tournament usually takes place around late March. The same time as our winter carnival.
Earl David Googoo was the youngest son of the late Michael and Emily Googoo. He was an outgoing person who participated in baseball and minor hockey. He was one of the original members of the Warhawks Hockey team. Tragically, Earl's Life was cut short when he was involved in a motor cycle accident. He was 20 years old.
