A Message From Principal John Hendsbee

Welcome to our homepage. It is my hope that visitors will enjoy and learn from the information we have chosen to present about our school and community.

Waycobah First Nation Secondary School is Currently in its fourth year of operation. Visitors often comment on how comfortable it seems, and we take pride in a spirit of cooperation as we work to learn together. Although we have only 80 students, the school offers a wide selection of academic and elective course options.

The staff is a dedicated and professional team, and the students are our greatest pride. Within the past four years we have enjoyed tremendous support from our community, and the Band Council has provided direction and financial support which has always placed emphasis on what is best for the students in terms of programming.

Because we are a First Nation School there is a great deal of emphasis in cultural and linguistic education. One of our guiding principles is to develop pride in self and culture as a basis of strength from which to face life's challenges. We have an open-door policy, and visitors will often see Elders and community resource people handing down valuable skills and knowledge as a part of the curriculum. Whatever the subject, the staff constantly keep this principle in mind when developing daily activities in their area of expertise. We also keep in mind our responsibilities to studentsand parents to provide the graduates the best possible education with regard to provincial standards. It is this combination that allows us to remain flexible enough to meet community needs and maintain a commitment to excellence.

Wela'liek / Thank You

John Hendsbee
