Ryan Joseph Googoo
April 7, 1934 - June 30, 2000
Ryan Joseph Googoo, commonly known as dad, granddad by family and as Mr. J by friends near and far, was born in Whycocomagh (Waycobah) on April 7th, 1934 to the proud parents of Michael P. Googoo of Whycocomagh and the former Helen Sylliboy of Eskasoni.
He had five brothers, the late Gabriel Googoo, Bernie B. Googoo, Stanley Googoo, all of Waycobah. Alex R. Googoo in Wagmatcook and William Googoo in Millbrook. He also had three foster brothers, the late Wayne Googoo, the late Donald Googoo and Henry Googoo all of Waycobah. His family also included four sisters, Mary (Mrs. Andrew Bernard), Geraldine (Mrs. Michael J. Paul) of Waycobah, Anna K. (Mrs. Francis Pierro) of Wagmatcook, and Germaine (Mrs. Phillip Martin) of Millbrook, and three foster sisters Barbara (Mrs. Gordie Matheson) of Shubie, Matilda Pierro of Waycobah and Bridget Marshall of Chapel Island.
He got maried on August 6th, 1962 to Mary V. Pierro (Grammy) of Wagmatcook and they both raised seven children. Renita (Mrs. Martin Bernard), Ryan Jr., Eric, Roger, Richard, Carl and Shane, all of Waycobah.
He was a professional painter by trade, like his father whom he worked with for many years, and also a journeyman carpenter. He was capable of doing other things like plumbing, drywall work, auto body work and paint jobs. His trades allowed him to build most of the homes in Waycobah, and the ones he didn't build, he renovated.
In his early days, he enjoyed hunting and trapping, played hockey and ball, and was into scuba diving. Later, he passed time fishing, gardening and landscaping, attending sporting events, camping, cooking and barbecuing. He also enjoyed buying old cars and truck so he could restore them and drive away in them when he finished working on them.
His major accomplishments in life, was that he was a good husband, father, grandfather and a good friend. He was always willing to give a helping hand to anyone, a an old friend or even a total stranger. He also had been a Band Councilor of Waycobah for 16 terms (32 years).
