Treaty Day

Treaty day, October 1st is a gathering of importance to members of the Mi'kmaq community. It commemorates the day in 1752 when Mi'kmaq leaders signed an agreement for us to hunt fish and do a lot of other things. Every year we gather in Halifax to renew the promise. Leaders, which include Grand Chief Ben Sylliboy, Keptin Alex Joe Michael, and Keptin John Prosper, attend this gathering. The Waycobah High School send a group of students to attend the ceremonies.
