Former Cheif Wayne R. Googoo

Wayne R. Googoo was born October 26, 1945. He got married to Mary H. Googoo in November 31. Mary is now 51. He had only one brother named Jamey Jul. He had only two children of his own. Their names are Doris Googoo and Morley Googoo. He was Chief for only four years. He was at the age of 26. He was Chief from November 1, 1972 until June 29, 1976. He lived in Waycocomgh from 1956 until 1972. He came to Waycocomgh at the age of 11. He attended the Shubenacadie Residential School.

His accomplishment was to make the Waycocomgh Island (Minigo) useful. He also had a store of his own. He called the Lucky Dollar Store. Also in the same store he was going to start a Clothing Store. But died 6 months after the opening of his store. Wayne was also the manager of Waycocomgh fisheries and active on the Board of Directors of the Union of Nova Scotia Indian.

ParentsHe did not live with his birth parents. He lived with his grandmother,and at that time there was no electricity and had to do farming. His parents were Victoria Jull and Morley Jull. He never thought of himself. He always thought of his community. He did what he believed in.

For his community he built the Lucky Dollar Store. He also started a school for his community. This was because people won't have to travel or move far from their family. He was a really good person. He had a really good attitude towards others. He tried to help in any way he can. If you had no food, clothing or if your house was in bad shape he will go see you and help in any way he can. If you were stubborn or will not listen to him he will talk to you until you communicate with him. He fought for a lot to help his community.

His hobbies were playing hockey, baseball, was a very socialized man. He gave advise to students was to stay in school and that education was important. He was a good friend and a Chief that cared. Wayne did much to improve the community very much.

Grave StoneIt is hoped that the ideals he held and the concerns , showed to others will be carried on after him by all members of the band. This was said by band members and members of his community. He was a well known man to everyone. He past away in June 29,1976. His death was from falling off a ride called the parachute and at that time he was with his son Wayne Morley Googoo. The door of the ride flew opened for some unknown reason. It occurred at 7:20 p.m. at the Bill Lynch shows. They were both in shock in result of the fall and were taken to St. Martha's Hospital in Antigonish.
